School Meals

At Houghton Kepier Sports College we have excellent catering facilities which operate through a cashless, pin code system.  Our caterers provide a wide choice of meals in the dining area.  There are a number of food options including; hot meals, pasta, salads, oven baked potatoes, as well as snack type food and fresh fruit.  All food is sold at a reasonable price; £1.90 will provide your child with a nutritious and tasty two course meal.  Many meals are made daily on our school premises.  We provide a free chilled and filtered water system in the dining hall for all Learners to use.  We also provide facilities for those Learners who wish to bring a packed lunch.

To apply for free school meals, you need to complete an application form. These are available from Children's Services (Civic Centre) and the main reception of the school. Decisions on the application for free school meals are not the school's responsibility.  If you wish to make enquiries about free school meals, then you should ring Children's Services Finance - Awards & Administration.  Telephone; 0191 5611417.

Currently, all Year 7, Year 8, Year 9 and Year 10 learners must remain on the school site during lunch breaks, except where there is a wish for them to return to the family home for their lunch.  Learners will be required to stay on site during lunchtime throughout KS3.  We hope that all Parents and Carers will support this policy.  This policy is in response to difficulties caused by Learners misbehaving away from the adult supervision provided in school at lunchtimes.

Parents, who allow their children to go off the school site at lunchtimes and therefore be unsupervised, are required to take full responsibility for their child's actions during this time and must explain that they accept responsibility in writing to the Headteacher.  In addition parents must make arrangements to collect and return their child at lunchtimes.

Learners are not allowed to purchase food from an outside vendor and then consume it in the corridors of the school.
